Support for IVCE’s fundraising artist Nguyen Dinh Nghia

Your contribution will help artist Nguyen Dinh Nghia who had a stroke on May 11th, 2003 and has been unconscious until today. Vietnam’s premier flutist and master of the T’rung or bamboo xylophone, Nguyen Dinh Nghia arrived in the U.S in 1984. He rose to prominence in Saigon in the 1960’s where he taught bamboo flute at the National Conservatory of Music and later at the Department of Traditional Music, Van Hanh University. He has given widely acclaimed concerts in France, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Nguyen Dinh Nghia and his family settled in the Maryland. He has toured the U.S and performed at colleges and festivals, including the Smithsonian Institution’s Festival of American Folklife and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City. He has received many music awards in U.S. He also is member of Board of Directors of IVCE. Nghia Dinh Nghia and his family performed for program of “Vietnam: Journeys of Body, Mind & Spirit” sponsored by American Museum of Natural History, New York City on May 11th, 2003. At the end of program, he felt to unconscious behind the stage, and he was taken to the hospital. His condition has been very serious for 3 months. During his hospitalization, the family has spent a lot of money for the medical bills because of limited insurance. Nguyen Dinh Nghia has dedicated his whole life to promote Vietnamese traditional music to Vietnamese community, American and Southeast Asia. We deeply admire his dedication.
