Professor Tran Van Khe

Born in My-Tho to a long standing family of musicians, Tran Van Khe played several Vietnamese traditional musical instruments before becoming acquainted with Western music. He received his doctoral degree from the Sorbonne University in 1958. Thereafter, Dr. Khe held many important positions, including: a member of French National Scientific Research Center (1959-1971) and later elected as a director of the Research Department (1971-1987), a full-time professor in Ethnomusicology at the Sorbonne University, a visiting professor and lecturer at many universities in the world. He is the author of three famous books on Vietnamese traditional music and of more than 200 research articles on Vietnamese music, Asian music, and ethnomusicology in general.
